Created by Google Arts & Culture in collaboration with artist David Li, Blob Opera is a delightful and interactive browser-based experimental music game where players compose operatic harmonies using four playful singing blobs. Each blob represents a typical vocal range: tenor, bass, soprano, and mezzo-soprano.
Blob Opera doesn’t have any strict rules, yet players are encouraged to explore opera singing, create unique harmonies, and experiment with pitch and vowels. The game features four cute blobs: Christian Joel, Frederick Tong, Joanna Gamble, and Olivia, each with a different operatic voice type: tenor, bass, mezzo-soprano, and soprano, respectively.
The game is easy to play; here are a few step-by-step guides that help you get started:
Try the first blob. Select any blob by clicking or tapping on it and drag it upward and downward to change the pitch for higher or lower notes. To adjust the vowel sound, simply drag it forward or backward (right or left).
Switch blobs. Experiment with different characters to explore their unique, distinctive type of voice by dragging to change the notes and vowel sound.
Experiment by controlling blobs one at a time or switching rapidly between them to perform combinations of different blobs at the same time. You can also play around with speed, with slow movements to create a calm opera and fast shifts to generate energetic sounds, for example.
Record your opera by clicking or tapping the record button at the screen's bottom left. Perform your song the way you want. When you are done, click again to stop recording. Watch the playback and save/share it if you want.

Drag the mouse or your fingertip to adjust the pitch and vowel of the blob.
If you are a big fan of musical games, Blob Opera is definitely a must-try. It’s a joyful mix of music creation, humor, and creativity. Play now and have fun!
